Who are you following?

What pawprints is the girl following?  Looks like they could be from a large cat.  A Lion perhaps?  Is she safe?  She seems oblivious to the danger she may be in.  She’s not watching where she’s going.  Her eyes are on the ground, and not looking ahead.

Who are you following – be it on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram or some other social media platform?  Or maybe your idol is some celebrity?  Are you safe?  Are you following the right person in pursuit of your dreams?  Or are you just blindly walking into a nightmare? 

No matter how long you’ve been a Christian, you need to take questions like these very seriously.  The one who pretends to be a lion (1 Pet. 5:8), continually tries to make you follow the wrong set of footprints.  We need to make sure we are following the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and not the father of lies – in whatever guise he shows up, no matter what fake news he tries to feed to us.

Please read the following passages, paying special attention to words and phrases that talk about following and that tell us where to focus our hearts and minds and where to fix our gaze.  Pray over them and ask God to speak to you out of them:

Luke 9:23; John 8:12; 10:27; 12:26; Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 3:1; 12:1-2 

Colossians 3:1-17 – especially verses 2 & 3; Philippians 4:8-9

Prophetic Focus

I believe that God wants to challenge us to examine our priorities and passions, and honestly determine what drives us and fills our thoughts and desires.  God created us to bear his image, and part of that involves aligning our passion with his.  What “floats your boat”?  What moves you to tears?

I believe that God wants to say – “I want to fill you up to overflowing with my presence, passion and power.  I want to enable you to follow after me with all your heart, mind and spirit.  I want you to draw only on my resources.  Don’t follow the fashion of this world.  Don’t model your attitudes or behaviours on those people the media thinks are great. Don’t let society around you shape your values, or confuse you about who I am, and who is in control in this dark world.  Let my light shine brightly in your heart.  Then let that light spill out into your neighbourhood, workplace and everywhere else.”

Worshipful prayer time

As you listen to the words of this video, spend time; watch more than once.  Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal if Christ really is enough for you:

Pray: 

Father – is there any way in which my daily walk is going in the wrong direction and following the crowd instead of Christ?

Father – fill me with your Holy Spirit, to overflowing – help me to follow you.

Let’s also continue to pray for Ukraine at the present time.  Please remember our brothers and sisters in Christ, and ask that God stands with them, protecting them from all that may come their way.
