Janet has been recognised for her incredible contributions to parents and the local community in Ragworth through her work at The Shack.

She works closely with the local primary school to provide support and guidance to parents and carers, helping them build lasting connections and equipping them with the skills to support each other. Janet also connects with families through The Shack’s Tasty Tuesday and Breakfast Club.

Jennie Potter, who nominated Janet, shared: “She is an amazing person to work alongside. Every day, she glorifies God with her servant heart.”

“She’s a wonderful advocate for our mission to serve the local community. She has a unique ability to make people feel welcome, relaxed, seen, and valued.”

“Janet is the perfect example of a welcoming volunteer. She’s always looking for ways to extend God’s kingdom in Ragworth, and we are all so proud of her.”

When Janet heard the news, she was genuinely surprised. Overwhelmed, she said: “In a room full of incredible people, the Teesside Hero could have been anyone. I couldn’t be more shocked by my nomination, but I’m so proud!”

“I feel blessed to be part of a project that makes such a difference to children, parents, and the community!”

The Teesside Hero Awards are about recognising those community superstars while helping the charity distribute much-needed funds to truly worthwhile causes across the area. Each Teesside Hero receives £1,000 for a local cause of their choice – plus a gleaming trophy.

Amazingly, Janet has donated the £1,000 she received as part of the award to The Shack, supporting their vital work and helping them continue to make a positive impact in the community.

Thank you, God, for the amazing work that volunteers like Janet do each day for your glory!
