Today I had my first driving lesson. Having been driven for 17 years of my life, I really enjoyed the opportunity to get in the driving seat and have a go myself!
Beforehand I felt nervous about being in control of a car but I knew that I could trust my driving instructor to help me and to step in and use the dual control when needed.
I began to think about other things where I have watched other people do things or had other people do things for me and felt God prompt me that there may be other areas of my lives where God is asking me to step up.
Maybe there are things in your life that God is asking you to take more responsibility for and perhaps these things make you feel nervous too. I think that God is saying that for each of us there are new challenges for us to embrace. However, He is not asking us to go straight from being a passenger to driving independently. He wants to come alongside us, like my driving instructor, and help us take things step by step. Just like my driving instructor, He will guide us step by step helping us to grow and just like my driving instructor, He has access to the dual controls and will be with us and ready to put on the brakes if we go too fast!
Pray
Today spend some time reflecting and asking God to speak to you about an area of new challenge.
Ask for God to help you to identify a first step for you to take.
Ask for God’s help to enable you to take a risk and to step out in faith. Perhaps God will bring someone to mind that you can talk to who may be able to offer you support or practical help?
Submit to God taking the dual control and acknowledge any impatience you may feel about wanting to be fully in the driving seat!
Prophetic
You may find it helpful to print out a picture of an L plate and to write on it what you feel that God has spoken to you about today to help you to remember.
Worship
Now listen to Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and encourage you.
Psalm 18:29
With Your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
